AR Rahman may sing for composer GV Prakash Kumar

Every time Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman takes to singing, he creates a sensation. For instance, his number from the recent Mani Ratnam film OK Kanmani is among the best of the film's track.

Now news is AR Rahman might sing in a composition by his nephew GV Prakash Kumar in upcoming yet-untitled Tamil film starring superstar Vijay.

"Prakash and the team are in talks with Rahman. If everything goes as planned, he might sing in this album. Prakash is keen that Rahman sings as this happens to be his 50th film as a composer," said a source close to the young composer.

The film, which will officially be launched in Chennai on Friday, also features Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson in the lead roles.

To be directed by Atlee, the project is said to feature Vijay as a policeman. The regular shooting will start from July 1.

AR Rahman meets Quincy Jones

Music maestro AR Rahman recently met legendary American record producer Quincy Jones in the US.

The 48-year-old Oscar and Grammy winning composer took to Facebook to share a photo with Jones.

"With legendary producer Quincy Jones after the LA concert," Rahman wrote.

Rahman recently wrapped his North American tour titled 'AR Rahman: The Intimate Concert Tour'.

During his visit to the US, 'Jai Ho', a documentary based on his life, was screened at the White House.

The film, directed by Umesh Aggarwal, traces the journey of Rahman's professional and personal life. It explores the evolution of his style of music-a fusion of Eastern sensibilities and Western technology.

Why AR Rahman went up in a hot air balloon?

Project Kural Balloon just got bigger. The hot air balloon dedicated to Thirukkural, which is all set to make its debut at the next edition of the Tamil Nadu International Festival in Pollachi, got a major shot in the arm when none other than Academy Award-winner AR Rahman expressed his interest in the project.

The composer, who is in North America for his Intimate tour, took some time out of his hectic schedule and went up in the air on a hot air balloon to understand about the Kural Balloon project. Benedict Savio, the organiser of the fest and the brainchild behind the project, says, "It was wonderful to have AR Rahman coming forward to experience a hot air balloon flight. We took off on a hot air balloon in Las Vegas and spoke to him about the Kural Balloon project and its impending world tour. He was quite excited about a project that would promote Tamil as a language on a global scale. It was really great of Rahman Sir who made this happen despite his tight schedule of concerts throughout North America."

The Kural Balloon will have all the 1,330 Thirukkural couplets printed on it along with the English translation. The balloon will be unveiled in Pollachi on Thiruvalluvar Day (January 26, 2016) and will be taken across countries that have a huge Tamil population. It is a crowd-funded project.
